5 Ways To Stop Self-Doubt

In this digital era where we see people achieving so much in life that too at a young age, it’s common to experience self-doubt and feel unworthy of achieving great things in life. And that’s why it becomes crucial to stop self-doubt.

Let’s understand this with an example that most of you might have experienced. Suppose you were in high school and your teacher gave you the responsibility of leading a project; how would you feel? Happy and proud right? And seconds after, you’ll be all tense and under pressure. Why? Because you know that you will be representing each team member and then start panicking, what if you are not able to do justice with the assigned role. Trust me; I have gone through this stage.

Self-doubt not only pulls you back but also impacts your work. You’ll soon start feeling demotivated, procrastinated, and then burn the midnight oil to complete the work at hand. Result? You will feel disappointed. The causes of self-doubt can be many but let’s look at the brighter side and find ways to stop self-doubt.

1. Have a Growth Mindset

By growth mindset I mean, being open to the opportunities around. Allow yourself to work in different situations and learn continuously from your mistakes. Self-doubt comes when we are afraid of the result, so try looking at mistakes as lessons learnt. Imposter syndrome makes us believe that we are not worthy of the work we are doing and will surely end up messing things up.

2. Remember Your Achievements

Everyone has something valuable to offer, and now I want you to remember the things that went well for you. This will boost your confidence and realize the value you bring to the table.

3. Journal Down

Journaling is a therapy. It helps you clear your mind without any filters. And thus, writing down your thoughts related to self-doubt can help you analyse the issue or the triggering point. You can also add the things you’re grateful for in the end to balance the vibes and feel good about yourself.

4. Reframe Your Self-talk

We often don’t regulate what we say about ourselves because it mostly happens in the subconscious. Self-deprecating talks filled with self-doubt can affect our work and our mental wellbeing. It is good that we start identifying those negative voices and replace them with positive voices. Do it for a week and see the results; I am sure you’ll be surprised!

5. Don’t Overcommit

Self-doubt may also come into play if you’re stressed about having too many things on your plate. In such a case, it is “ok” to say no to some of them so that you can allocate more time to the important ones. There’s no harm in doing so.
